Message from the Interim Department Chair

Kenneth Ballou, MD

The UCR School of Medicine's Department of Family Medicine provides a unique opportunity for training in a university program based in a community setting. The residency touts as providing the best training in comprehensive family medicine with advanced skills in hospital medicine, clinical procedures, free clinic/street medicine and integrated mental health.

The program's educational goal is to provide outstanding training for family medicine residents by developing clinical skills that enable residents to provide excellent patient care with compassion and leadership skills that enable residents to become health advocates within the community and strong role models for future physicians and leaders at the forefront of healthcare.

Our mission to provide excellent quality training in a disadvantaged community setting provides residents with a unique opportunity to embrace the underlying foundational principles of the program. Our program is relatively new, with the first class graduating in 2016. Most of our graduates are working in the Inland Empire.

Sincerely,

Kenneth Ballou, MD
